On 01 May 2021, the internet version of the Michael Schmidt Retrospective will open its doors. At www. michael-schmidt-retrospektive.com, the works of photographer Michael Schmidt will be shown, the exhibitions documented, insights provided and background information presented. In the future, the platform will further stimulate dialogue about the artist’s work and accompany the presentation of the various stages through Europe.
The Michael Schmidt Retrospective was first on view at the Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin from 23 August 2020 to 17 January 2021. Over the next year and a half, the exhibition will be shown at Jeu de Paume – Paris (7 June to 29 August 2021), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía – Madrid (28 September 2021 to 28 February 2022) and Albertina – Vienna (24 March to 12 June 2022).
Michael Schmidt, who died in 2014, is one of the most important photographers of post-war German photography, along with Bernd and Hilla Becher. His works are represented in national and international collections and he has presented his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
